We ascertain the unmet needs of our elders and connect them with healthcare, government benefits, and social services — serving as a critical bridge between vulnerable seniors and the systems designed to help them.
Many Himalayan elders arrived in the United States later in life, often with limited English proficiency. Navigating the American healthcare system, government benefits, and social services is extraordinarily difficult without language skills, digital literacy, or familiarity with institutional processes.
Our Elder Advocacy program ensures that no elder falls through the cracks. We conduct ongoing needs assessments, identify gaps in service, and reach out to appropriate organizations and individuals for assistance and guidance — serving as a trusted advocate for our community's most vulnerable members.
Ongoing evaluation of the unmet needs of our elder community — identifying service gaps and determining how best to address them through outreach and partnerships.
Helping elders access medical care, understand insurance options, schedule appointments, and communicate with healthcare providers through translation support.
Assisting eligible elders with enrollment in government programs including Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, and other social safety net services they are entitled to.
Connecting elders with appropriate organizations, legal services, and community resources — building a network of support around each individual's needs.
For an elder who speaks only Tibetan, the difference between having an advocate and not having one can be the difference between receiving critical healthcare or going without. Between accessing benefits they are entitled to or missing them entirely.
Our advocacy work is often invisible but profoundly impactful. We serve as translators, navigators, and champions for elders who have no other voice in the systems that affect their daily lives.
