Elder Voices
The real measure of our impact is how our elders feel. Here are their stories.
This organization has become my second family. The isolation that comes with staying home whilst our children go off to their daily work lives is difficult to say the least. But since joining, I’ve found a place where I belong, where people understand and care for me. It’s not just an organization; it’s a warm and welcoming home for all of us.Tsering Dorjee, 78 yrs old HEP Member since 2012
It’s bittersweet when the end of the week arrives, and we have to leave the organization. Three days a week does not feel enough when you’re surrounded by such loving and caring people. Saying goodbye is always tough, but it makes us cherish the moments we spend together even more.Dawa, 81 yrs old HEP Member since 2013
I enjoy our winter camping trips the most, the ones with great food, and beautiful nature! The organization’s efforts to organize outdoor events have given us the chance to connect with fellow companions, reminisce old times, and make new memories. It’s rejuvenating and a reminder that age should never hold us back from experiencing fun things like dancing and group activities.Nyima, 74 yrs old HEP Member since 2014
Learning and reading the Tibetan Pecha has been a lifelong dream, and this organization made it possible. The dedication of the instructors and the support of my fellow members have helped me embrace my passion for religious practices. It’s been a spiritual journey that brings me peace and fulfillment in my heart.Lhamo, 83 yrs old HEP Member since 2012
I moved to a new country for my children and grandchildren, but I didn’t know anyone here. Joining this organization has introduced me to wonderful people who have become my closest friends. We laugh, share stories, and support each other through thick and thin. One thing I’ve learned from the people around me is how to navigate around the city. I commute here all the way from New Jersey without any issues!Tsering Palzom, 76 yrs old HEP Member since 2015
The staff at this organization deserve all the praise in the world. Their dedication, compassion, and kindness make each day special for us. They go above and beyond to ensure our well-being. I cannot imagine living in this country without this organization.Norbu Dolma, 79 yrs old HEP Member since 2014
From the very first day, I felt embraced by this community. It’s like having an extended family — we dance gorshey, share holidays, and support each other through tough times. Being a part of this organization has given me a sense of belonging that I never thought I’d receive.Dhondup Dorjee, 77 yrs old HEP Member since 2016
